Network Security Specialist

We are looking for a Network Security Specialist to work within the European Information Systems and Services department (EISS). This role will be based in Wantage, Oxfordshire.

The appointed candidate will be responsible for protecting Crown’s IT systems from Cyber security threats by implementing cyber security solutions and ensuring that all threats and threat alerts are fully investigated and treated to maintain a strong security posture. Also responsible for managing security configuration and changes to networking, including firewalls and VPNs, ensuring the most simple, secure, and efficient connectivity across the Crown estate.

Main Challenges and Complexity

  • Ensuring best practice is followed at every step for network connections between companies, divisions, and regions.
  • Ensuring threats are understood and mitigated quickly and thoroughly in Operational Technology environments, sites with resource constraints, as well as across the IT network.
  • Involvement in projects of varying complexity to ensure security best practices are followed and enacted across third-party software and services provided by external vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work as part of a team to investigate and respond to cyber security incidents, compromises, and/or breaches, ensuring these are performed quickly, efficiently, and diligently, with a focus on continual service improvement.
  2. Liaise with other EISS teams, various other departments across EMEA, and the Global Information Security team to ensure that knowledge and experience are shared around security alerts, investigations, and response strategies.
  3. Identifying and addressing issues within IT solutions, to ensure they comply with cyber security standards and policies whilst addressing current and future business requirements.
  4. Create, update, remove, and otherwise maintain internal and edge firewall rules and settings to ensure best practice security is always in place, including during transitions.
  5. Ensure VPN connectivity is secure for all staff and contractors via both client and clientless implementations, including creating secure new connection routes for specific vendors.
  6. Support all third party and internally managed cyber security solutions.
  7. Review website security settings and certificates, updating, renewing, and replacing when required.
  8. Assisting the network team in responding to network outages, and issues with VPN, North/South, and East/West traffic.
  9. Work with the IT teams in the other Crown divisions around the world to provide consistent cyber security configurations and keep strategic goals aligned wherever possible.
  10. Assist in identifying and defining new Company networking security standards.
  11. Meet governance requirements and help ensure compliance with all necessary cyber security related regulations, local legislations, and audit requirements.
  12. Document cyber security solutions and standards and keep all cyber security related documentation up to date.
  13. Keep abreast of cyber security laws, vulnerabilities, and solutions to develop skill sets and knowledge in all aspects of cyber security.

Job Requirements

In order to succeed in this role, you will be educated to degree level with the following background:

  • Networking background with at least 5 years working experience within a Microsoft-based environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of networking solutions, policies & processes.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a role with IT security related responsibilities.
  • Experience of activities involving teams across multiple geographies.
  • Strong understanding of a Microsoft cloud, server & client products.
  • Good understanding of IT Security & associated technologies.
  • Background in Palo Alto Prisma Access security preferable.
