"The biggest challenge of any EHS manager is convincing employees to enter into a journey of continuous improvement towards a positive safety culture. I was asked on my initial interview “how are you going to reduce incident rates and improve the health and safety culture”. I decided to embark on a journey of influence and teaching through a series of safety campaigns. These were primarily aimed at safety behaviour and personal responsibility, gradually year on year people buy in to the idea of safety and inclusiveness it slowly becomes normal practice to plan and perform safely.

By progressive health and safety meetings and safety circles it sends a clear message to people inside and outside the organisation “you’re valued, we care”. This creates a positive working environment and with every day added to the board without a lost workday or incident, a sense of pride increases across the site. In short, this value becomes a self-perpetuating motion, nobody wants to let the side down.

I feel honoured to work for Crown, however, I feel extremely proud to have the professional and conscientious workforce we have at Botcherby."

"In 2018, my career journey in Crown started when I joined as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer at the new plant in Parma.

From the first few days in Crown, I have felt at ease with the maintenance team and the company culture. I have continuously received encouragement and been given the chance to grow and develop my technical skills.

I think that one of the most important competencies required to best fulfill the role of Maintenance Engineer in Crown, is the ability to problem solve, this is essential in a dynamic context in which production is operational 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Technical intervention by us is often critical for the effective running of the machinery. 

Since June 2023, I have had the opportunity to grow professionally and take on the role of Electrical Coordinator. I am grateful to my manager and to the business for believing in me!

My goal now is to motivate the Team to achieve our company objectives together and continue to grow together in a climate of collaboration and mutual respect.
