About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer, predominantly based at our Head Office in Shipley. Occasional travel is required for this role.
Your mission in CMBe
The successful candidate will act as a project design authority, responsible for the delivery of project technical solutions. This role is responsible for generating technical requirements from customers and product specifications; generating design concepts for solutions to specific functional requirements; and evaluating design concept technical and project risks to select preferred solutions. This role is also responsible for documenting design concept assumptions, design trade-offs and calculations within the project design file. The successful candidate will be involved in peer reviewing technical content for gate reviews across projects, identifying opportunities for the protection of design Intellectual Property (IP), and generating test plans to verify design concept and system performance.
Experience leading technical projects is crucial for this role. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to, co-ordinating with the quality department to define incoming inspection requirements to verify component quality; preparing and presenting technical reports for project gate reviews; and contributing to planning design activities with the project manager. The ideal candidate will have experience in contributing to the continuous improvement of the NPD process. The candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to capture project technical risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle. This role is also responsible for providing technical support to the publications department for the creation of product manuals, build books, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
Essential to this role is knowledge of material properties and standards; geometric dimensioning and tolerance principles and standards (ISO); machining methods and techniques; and configuration management (BOM) and Material Resource Planning (MSO) packages. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and experience of CAD systems to generate models and drawings.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate technical knowledge of sensor technologies/solutions; electrical drive systems; mechanical transmission systems; and hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication systems. Technical knowledge of packaging machinery is desirable.
About you
Candidates must hold a formal technical qualification to degree level, or equivalent, in a Mechanical Engineering discipline. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills to communicate technical information with various stakeholders; together with strong verbal and written skills, problem solving skills, the ability to work effectively within, and across, project teams and be highly organised with a high level of attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a high quality of work, adaptability, and think strategically.
