Based at CarnaudMetalbox Engineering – Shipley

Reporting to the Machine Shop Manager we are looking to recruit an experienced, qualified Team Leader to join the production management team in the Machine Shop.

The Candidate

You will have a good knowledge of the company’s product range, and/or experience of a similar production environment, but more important is your ability to lead, motivate and organise a team of people to meet production deadlines.  You will be professional in your approach, organised and capable.  You will have a flexible style, be a skilful and effective communicator with good interpersonal and planning skills.  Able to communicate appropriately and confidently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Role Criteria

Your primary responsibilities will involve, maintaining a safe working environment ensuring that all tasks are undertaken; in a controlled manner using appropriate risk assessment methods.  Executing the daily, weekly plans for the department, managing the manpower and other resources to carry them out in an efficient and productive manner.  Leading continuous improvement activity to improve operational efficiencies in order to deliver reductions in waste and cost.  Providing leadership of the team, including permanent and temporary production staff.  Coaching and developing production workers so that key tasks can be delegated to operational teams in order to meet shift targets.  Responsibility for the training and developing  engineering apprentices in your area.  Supporting effective usage of process improvement and lean manufacturing tools such as SPC, FMEAs, 6S etc. Implementing the plant sickness and absence policies, including return to work interviews.  Disciplinary management, including investigation and delivery of appropriate disciplinary sanctions.

Knowledge & Experience

You will have a detailed working knowledge of mechanical engineering practices.  You will hold an HNC qualification in Mechanical or Production Engineering or hold an equivalent vocational qualification.  You will have significant proven management experience in a complex manufacturing or engineering business.
