We now have a vacancy for a Plant HR Manager, reporting to the Plant Manager, based in Peterborough in the UK. This is an incredible opportunity to join Crown in a brand-new role and become one of the ‘first feet on the ground’ for the new manufacturing plant we are building. The Plant will operate 24 hours per day on a continuous shift system, 360 days per annum and will employ approximately 280 people.

The successful candidate will be a key player within the Plant Management Team ensuring that the Plant is staffed by the appropriate number of skilled, properly paid and motivated employees and that the objectives and plans of the Senior Management team regarding human resources are delivered.

Your mission in Crown
As a new plant, Peterborough will have a major recruitment drive and a large number of people arriving at the same time, travelling for training and learning the culture of the Company. As a new site, the Plant HR will play a key role in establishing and structuring his/her department, while documenting and improving local HR processes, consistent with Company, Country and Operational policies and with internal/external controls.

  • Training & Development plans: Ensure that the resources are in place to deliver individual development plans, in line with business goals, developing a multi-skilled, knowledgeable and committed workforce. Organise and supervise/conduct induction training for all employees and ensure maintenance of individual training records
  • Recruitment: Ensure that Company standards and legal compliance are achieved at all stages of the process
  • Time and attendance and other payroll-related activities,
  • Managing shift pattern and monitoring sickness / holiday absence and holidays 
  • HR Systems Maintenance: Ensure that HR system is used and HR policies are followed (consistent with Company, Country and operational policies)
  • Manpower planning/reporting: Deliver recruitment and headcount management programmes, in order to meet the business plan. Prepare and control Personnel Costs budget, reviewing overspends and advising on corrective action
  • Communication: Ensure effective two-way communication between all levels of the business, so that working teams understand key events, issues and problems. Develop and promote mechanisms to ensure the capture, analysis and implementation of ideas which deliver improvements. Ensure that all HR plant Noticeboards are up to date


About you:
The ideal candidate has significant Human Resources generalist experience (7-10 years) and a minimum of 3-5 years at management level, ideally within a manufacturing, high-volume and fast-paced environment. You are educated to degree level and CIPD qualified. With strong influencing and interpersonal skills, you are able to establish credibility with senior management. You can demonstrate the ability to motivate and positively influence others. You have a robust understanding of the operational delivery of people agendas covering HR admin and payroll, attraction, recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, talent management, organisational change and development and Employee Relations.
A safety mind-set is very important as is attention to detail where people and processes are concerned. You will be an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills at all levels both internally and externally. With solid problem-solving and analytical capabilities, you are able to analyse Human Resources data, find root causes and  develop short, medium and long-term plans accordingly. You are proficient in MS Office, preferably with a working knowledge of HR information systems (ie SAP).
